About Us

Derek grew up around the world as part of a military family. This instilled in him a sense of adventure and exploration. Derek was exposed to outdoor education experiences through Scouting, camping, hiking, and canoeing all over. Eventually leading to the rank of Eagle Scout. Derek's passions led him to pursue a degree in Outdoor Leadership and Education from Northern Arizona University. He was heavily involved in NAU's outdoor program with positions including trip leader, challenge course facilitator, wilderness medicine instructor, student manager, and river guide. Through his experience at NAU Outdoors, Derek developed a passion for teaching others in wild places. For the past 15 years, Derek has worked at and managed a variety of outdoor education programs at military bases, universities, and primary schools. He enjoys ensuring the outdoors are an integral part of a child's education. Derek currently resides in Boise, Idaho with his wife, Colette, and two awesome kids, Kallen (6), and Hadley (3). You can find him riding bikes, climbing rocks, or exploring anything the pacific northwest has to offer.
